The painfully slow process of mill site clean-up is not completed. The owners of the property have spent far more time trying to sell it than doing an exemplary clean-up. Progress has been made, but the slow pace is a tremendous burden that our coastal community has had to bear. See NHUDG's May 2015 newsletter. This is a missed opportunity for our community and Georgia-Pacific. A terrific clean-up and a sensible forward thinking plan for development will catch the world's attention.
For the time being, the cleanup continues at a snail's pace. The NHUDG effort to daylight the creeks on the mill site depends upon vigorous community support. A thorough clean-up and no more foot dragging by the owner is the best thing for nature and the economic well being of Fort Bragg. |
