The City of Fort Bragg's newly constructed Coastal Trail
opened to the public on Saturday, January 31, 2015.
The trailhead and parking lot are located at the west end of Elm Street adjacent to Glass Beach. A new 8-foot wide paved trail extends along more than a mile of carefully restored coastal bluff drainage, soils andtender native seedlings with access to a stretch of coastline that has been behind the fences of the former mill site for more than a century. The trail is open from dawn until dusk.
The City of Fort Bragg has been working for several years to complete the Fort Bragg Coastal Trail & Restoration project which will provide public access along the City’s coast for the first time in over a century. The construction project is funded with a $1.36M grant from the State Coastal Conservancy, a $4.8M grant from the Statewide Park Program (Prop 84 funding), and a $348K grant from Caltrans.

The parts of the mill site that are currently owned by the City, including the Coastal Trail and parkland and the property where the future Noyo Center will be built have been remediated and are in the process of being restored. Removing the asphalt covering, grading to restore natural contours of the land, constructing berms and swales to prevent flood waters from washing away the soil, and replanting with native plants is work that is slowly returning this property to its beautiful potential.
